Creating a custom variable for adult smartphone owners in ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App displays the percentage of the adult smartphone users for each individual U.S. state in a color-coded map. The example image below shows there are 27, 248, 090 adult smartphone owners in California, which constitutes 89.07% of California's adult population in 2020.

In some instances, users must display the overall percentage by state. For example, the total U.S. adult smartphone owners in 2020 is 227,016,799. Therefore, the overall percentage of U.S. adult smartphone owners living in California is 27248090/227016799*100 percent=12 percent. 

过程

Follow the workaround below to create a custom variable to display the overall percentage of adult smartphone owners living in the U.S. by state.

1. In ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App, open the color-coded map, and click + Add variable.

2. On the bottom-right of the Data Browser window, click Show All.

3. On the bottom-left of the Data Browser window, click Create a custom variable.

4. In the Create Custom Variable dialog box, click the Advanced custom variable tab.

5. Type smartphone in the search box, and click the Search  icon.

6. Build the expression for the custom variable to calculate the overall U.S. adult smartphone owners by state. In this example, the following expression divides the total adult smartphone owners in each state by the total U.S. adult smartphone owners and multiplies it by 100.

Note:
Ensure the number button  is selected for the 2020 Have a smartphone variable under Assemble your custom variable. for the expression of the expression to work.

1. Check the 2020 Have a smartphone check box, and click Add Selected Variables to add the 2020 Have a smartphone variable to the custom variable.
2. Click the Divide operator .
3. Click the Add Number button , and type 227016799 in the box. 
4. Click the Multiply operator .
5. Click the Add Number button , and type 100 in the box.

7. Click Save & Add.

8. In the Save Custom Variable dialog box, name the custom variable, and set the number of decimal places.

9. Click Save.

The color-coded map below shows 12 percent of U.S. adult smartphone owners live in California.
