PROBLEM

Bookmarks in ArcGIS Pro do not zoom to the set extent in the Layout view

Last Published: April 20, 2021

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, bookmarks allow maps to be saved at set positions or perspectives. This is useful for creating a bookmark map series, or for working on that specific extent at a later time. In some instances, selecting a bookmark in ArcGIS Pro does display it to the extent set when the Layout view is selected as the active view.

Cause

  • Accumulated cache in ArcGIS Pro results in performance issues, causing layers to not display as expected.
  • A known issue due to BUG-000127905. This happens when the zoom extent is set on the map with a rotation value that is not a multiple of 45. For example, if values of 105 or 321 are selected.

Solution or Workaround

Use any of the following solutions depending on the cause.

Empty the cache by performing a soft reset

Note:
The AppData folder is hidden by default. Refer to Microsoft: Show hidden files for steps to view hidden folders.
  1. Navigate to the following path:
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\
  1. Rename the ESRI folder to ESRI_Old.
  2. Launch ArcGIS Pro.

Set the zoom extent on the map with a rotation angle that is a multiple of 45

The accepted values are 0, 45, 90, 135, 180, 225, 270, 315 and 360. Refer to How To: Rotate the map in ArcGIS Pro to set rotation angles on a map.
