Problem: The Export Data option is unavailable in ArcGIS Online

Description

In ArcGIS Online, when attempting to export a web layer to a file type using its item details page, the Export Data option is unavailable.

Cause

The following are known causes for this issue:

  • The member’s user type, default role, or custom role has insufficient privileges.
  • The option to export the layer to other formats is not enabled. 
  • The layer is not published as a hosted feature layer. 

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, use one of the options below to resolve the issue.

Update the member’s user type, default role, or custom role to enable the privilege to create content

Note:
Only an organization's administrator can perform the following workflows.

Enable the option to export the layer to other formats

  1. Sign in to ArcGIS Online. Click Content > My Content
  2. Browse to the hosted feature layer, click More Options Image of the More Options button, and select View item details
  3. On the item details page, click Settings, and click Feature Layer (hosted) on the top panel. 
  4. Under Export Data, check the Allow others to export to different formats. check box.

Publish the feature layer as a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online

  1. Sign in to ArcGIS Online. Click Content > My Content
  2. Browse to the feature layer, click More Options Image of the More Options button, and select View item details
  3. On the item details page, click Publish.

  1. In the Publish window, add your title and tags to the Title and Tags fields, and click Publish.
