PROBLEM

"External sharing process failed" error when creating a mobile map package in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

When creating a mobile map package from the Share tab in ArcGIS Pro, the following error is returned:

Error:
External sharing process failed

Cause

If the data sources of the package are stored in network locations, access to these locations may be restricted by an antivirus software. This includes access to folders for sharing, such as staging, unpacking, project, and offline maps for ArcGIS Pro. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Share and download options for more information.

Or, the size of the mobile map package is too large to be created through the Package Mobile Map pane from the Share tab.

Solution or Workaround

Before creating the mobile map package, ensure all data sources for the package are stored on the local machine, or access to them in the network locations are unrestricted.

Alternatively, use the Create Mobile Map Package geoprocessing tool to create the mobile map package. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Create Mobile Map Package (Data Management) for more information.
