FAQ: Is it possible to add or edit domains after a feature service is published in ArcGIS Online?

Question

Is it possible to add or edit domains after a feature service is published in ArcGIS Online?

Answer

Currently, adding or editing domains after a feature service is published cannot be done directly in ArcGIS Online. However, this can be achieved through editing from the REST endpoint. To do this, refer to the steps in the following knowledge base article: How To: Add coded value domains to a hosted feature service in ArcGIS Online.

Note:
The ability to create and edit domains is to be released in an upcoming ArcGIS Online version. For more information, refer to What's Coming - ArcGIS Online.

An alternative is to create a local copy of the existing feature service in ArcMap, add or modify the domains in the local copy, and use the local copy to overwrite the existing feature service by navigating to File > Share As > Service > Overwrite an existing service.
