Unable to access ArcGIS Server Manager through Web Adaptor URL even though the javaw process is present in Task Manager

Description

When accessing ArcGIS Server Manager through the web adaptor URL following error message is returned though the Server Manager is accessible through internal/port URL:

Could not access any server machines. Please contact your system administrator.

Cause

There are a few probable causes of this error message, some of which are discussed in the following knowledge base articles:

• Error: Could not access any GIS Server machines. Please contact your system administrator
• Could not access any server machines

The issue could also be caused by the status of the server machine showing as stopped in Server Manager, even though the machine is not physically stopped. This can be verified using the below steps:

1. Log in to ArcGIS Server Manager or ArcGIS Server Admin using the internal ArcGIS Server URL. For example:

https://ArcGISServerhost.domain.com:6443/arcgis/manager

2. If logged in to the Server Manager interface, navigate to Site > Server Configuration > Machines, as shown in image below, and note the Status field.

• • System and utilities tools would also be shown in the Stopping state, as shown in the following screenshot.

3. If logged in to the Administrator interface, go to: Home > machines > [machine name], Click on Status present next to resources, as seen in the following image.

Solution or Workaround

Once it is verified that the status of machine is showing as stopped in Server Manager or at the ArcGIS Admin endpoint, follow the below mentioned steps.

1. Navigate to ArcGIS Server admin using a URL similar to the following example:

https://gisserver.domain.com:6443/arcgis/admin

2. Sign in with the credentials of the Primary Site Administrator.
3. Navigate to the following path Home > machines > [machine name].
4. Under Supported Operations click start, which opens a new web page.
5. Click start.
6. Clear the browser cache.
7. Access the Server Manager through the Web Adaptor URL. It should now be accessible, as shown in the next image.
