PROBLEM

Unable to publish a mosaic dataset as an image service to Portal for ArcGIS in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: May 29, 2024

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, raster and mosaic datasets can be published as an image service to Portal for ArcGIS through ArcGIS Server. This can be performed using the Share As Web Layer pane. However, in some situations, the Analyze and Publish buttons in the Share As Web Layer pane are unavailable to publish an image service from a mosaic dataset, as shown in the image below.

Cause

ArcGIS Server has not been authorized an ArcGIS Image Server license. Both ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Image Server are required to publish mosaic datasets as an image service. With only ArcGIS Server, only raster datasets can be published. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Options for publishing depending on your setup for more information.

Note:
If other service types present similar behavior, refer to the following knowledge base article, Problem: The Analyze and Publish options are disabled when sharing layers from ArcGIS Pro to Portal for ArcGIS for steps to solving the issue.

Solution or Workaround

Set up ArcGIS Image Server for the ArcGIS Enterprise portal. Alternatively, publish the mosaic dataset as a map service instead of an image service. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Publish a map service for instructions.
