Description
In ArcGIS Online, content can be shared with other ArcGIS Online organizations through partnered collaborations. However, members with the Mobile Worker user type are unable to join partnered collaborations.
Cause
This is by default. Members with the Mobile Worker user type do not have the privilege to join groups owned by members outside the organization, thus preventing mobile workers from joining partnered collaborations.
Solution or Workaround
As a workaround, create a new custom role and grant the role the 'Join organizational groups,' 'Join external groups,' and 'View groups shared with organization' privileges. Follow the instructions below to create the custom role with sufficient privileges, assign the role to the mobile workers, and invite them to a partnered collaboration.
- Sign in to ArcGIS Online with administrative privileges.
- Create the custom role with the privileges necessary to allow mobile workers to join partnered collaborations.
- Navigate to Organization > Settings > Member Roles and click Create Role.
- In the Create role window, specify the Role name and Description.
- Set the Privilege compatibility setting to View and edit.
- For the Role Privileges section, click Set from existing role to import settings from an existing role such as the Viewer or Data Editor role, and click Import settings.
- Expand General privileges.
- Expand Groups and toggle the Join organizational groups, Join external groups, and View groups shared with organization options on to enable them.
- Click Save to save the custom role.
- Assign the custom role to the mobile workers. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Change member roles for instructions.
- Create a partnered collaboration if it has not been created. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Create a partnered collaboration for instructions.
- Invite the mobile workers with the custom role to a new group or an existing group in the partnered collaboration to share content between organizations.
- Navigate to Organization > Settings > Collaborations.
- Click the More Options icon on the partnered collaboration.
- In the <partnered collaboration name> collaboration details window, expand Groups in your organization with <partnered collaboration name> member, and click Create new group to create a new group, or select the existing groups.
- Invite mobile workers with the custom role to the collaboration group. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Invite and add members for more information.
Note:
When creating the new group, ensure the Shared update option is disabled. Enabling shared update restricts group membership to organizations in a partnered collaboration. Mobile workers with the custom role are still able to update contents in the partnered collaborations with the option disabled.
