Unable to batch geocode addresses with a custom geocoder in Portal for ArcGIS

Description

Attempting to batch geocode with a custom geocoder in Portal for ArcGIS fails, returning the following error message:

Analyze Service error: Server tool execution failed: ERROR 001551: Unable to access portal's geocode service from the hosted server. Failed to execute (Analyze Features for Portal). Failed. Failed to execute (Analyze Features for Portal). Failed.

Cause

  • Portal for ArcGIS does not trust the certificate in ArcGIS Server. ArcGIS Server uses a wildcard certificate.
  • The geocode service is not configured properly in Portal for ArcGIS.

Solution or Workaround

Use one of the following solutions to resolve the issue depending on the cause.

Import the root certificate from ArcGIS Server to the Portal for ArcGIS trusted keystore

  1. Export the root certificate from ArcGIS Server. Refer to How To: Export Certificates from ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS for steps to perform this.
  2. Import the certificate to the Portal for ArcGIS keystore to establish trust between Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Server. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Use an existing CA-signed certificate for steps to perform this.

Configure the geocode service in Portal for ArcGIS

Configure the geocode service to support batch geocoding in Portal for ArcGIS. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Configure the portal to geocode addresses for more information.
