Cause

The specified coordinates for the lower left origin of the output grid feature class are not within the extent of the input feature layer.

Solution or Workaround

Ensure the polygon grid origin coordinates are within the extent of the input feature layer

On the Grid Index Features pane, ensure the coordinates specified for the Polygon Grid Origin Coordinates parameter are within the extent of the input feature layer. To view the feature layer’s extent, navigate to the Source tab in the Layer Properties dialog box of the feature layer. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Set layer properties for more information.

Uncheck the ‘Generate Polygon Grid that intersects input feature layers or dataset’ option

By default, the Grid Index Features tool generates a polygon grid within the input feature. If the coordinates specified for the Polygon Grid Origin Coordinate parameter are not within the extent of the input feature layer, uncheck the Generate Polygon Grid that intersects input feature layers or dataset option. This method enables users to customize the output grid feature to some extent on the map.
