Option in the Update data window is disabled in ArcGIS Online

Description

In ArcGIS Online, when attempting to update data from the item details page of a hosted feature layer or hosted table, either the ‘Update features,’ ‘Add and update features,’ or ‘Overwrite entire feature layer’ option is disabled in the Update data window, as shown in the image below.

Cause

• The 'Update features,' 'Add and update features,' or ‘Overwrite entire feature layer’ option is disabled when synchronization or change tracking is enabled on the hosted feature layer. Features can only be added but not updated or overwritten when synchronization or change tracking is enabled.
• The 'Overwrite entire feature layer' option is disabled when the hosted feature layer is published from ArcGIS Pro.
• The 'Overwrite entire feature layer' option is disabled when the source item, such as a shapefile, file geodatabase, .csv file, or Microsoft Excel file, used to create the feature layer is deleted in ArcGIS Online.
• The 'Overwrite entire feature layer' option is disabled for the sublayer of a hosted feature layer.

Solution or Workaround

• Disable synchronization and change tracking on the hosted feature layer. Refer to Problem: The Update features and Add and update features options are disabled in ArcGIS Online for instructions.
• Overwrite the feature layer in ArcGIS Pro and publish the feature layer to ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Overwrite a web feature layer for instructions.
• Re-add the file to ArcGIS Online and create a new hosted feature layer from the file.
• Overwrite the hosted feature layer containing the sublayer.
