PROBLEM

No hosting server set after completing a multi-tier deployment using ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure

Last Published: September 21, 2020

Description

During the deployment configuration for ArcGIS Enterprise Cloud Builder for Microsoft Azure versions 10.7.1 and below, when the 'Single tier deployment' option is not selected and the 'Self Signed Certificate (Automatically Generated)' certificate option is selected, no hosting server is set once the deployment is complete.

Cause

On a distributed site, the public URL is used to federate the Service and Admin URLs for the machines. Portal for ArcGIS does not trust the self-signed wildcard certificate presented by IIS, and fails when selecting the hosting server. This does not prevent the deployment from running successfully.

Solution or Workaround

Manually configure the certificate settings to resolve this issue.

  1. Access the public URL of the site, and export all the certificates in the .CER file format. This is done by the organization's IT department.
  2. Navigate to the Portal for ArcGIS admin endpoint, and log in with an administrator account.
  3. Navigate to Security > SSLCertificates > Import Root or Intermediate.
  4. Select the .CER file generated in Step 1. Portal for ArcGIS restarts after successfully importing the certificates.
  5. Navigate to the Portal for ArcGIS home page, and sign in with an administrator account.
  6. Navigate to Organization > Settings > Servers. Under Hosting Server, select the appropriate service URL from the drop-down list to set it as the hosting server for the deployment.
