PROBLEM
In ArcGIS Pro, point cloud data in LAZ files can be displayed on a map by converting the LAZ files to LAS files using the Convert LAS tool. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Convert LAS (Conversion) for more information.
In some instances, converting a LAZ file to a LAS file using the Convert LAS tool fails and returns the following error message:
Error: ERROR 999999: Something unexpected caused the tool to fail. Contact Esri Technical Support (http://esriurl.com/support) to Report a Bug, and refer to the error help for potential solutions or workarounds.
Depending on the cause, use one of the following solutions to convert the LAZ file to a LAS file in ArcGIS Pro using the Convert LAS tool.
Disable the Rearrange Points option of the Convert LAS pane
In ArcGIS Pro, disable the Rearrange Points option when converting the file to ensure the arrangement of the point cloud data in the LAZ file is honored. In the Convert LAS pane and under LAS Options, uncheck the Rearrange Points check box.
Specify an input coordinate system for the Convert LAS tool
In ArcGIS Pro, specify a coordinate system to define the spatial reference of the point cloud data in the LAZ file. In the Convert LAS pane, click the Select Coordinate System button, and select a suitable coordinate system from the XY Coordinate Systems Available list in the Coordinate System window.
The image below shows the LAZ file is successfully converted to a LAS file after disabling the Rearrange Points option and defining the coordinate system for the LAZ file in ArcGIS Pro.
