Frequently asked question

Is it possible to save a layer file into a file geodatabase?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

No, it is not possible to save a layer file into a file geodatabase. Layer files store the properties of a layer (such as symbology, labels, and scale thresholds) in ArcMap, and cannot be stored inside of a geodatabase. This includes file geodatabases and enterprise (ArcSDE) geodatabases.
