Advanced 3D symbols not displaying properly in the Scene Viewer after installing Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Enterprise Sites Security Patch A or B

Description

Installing the Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Enterprise Sites Security Patch causes advanced 3D symbols to no longer display properly in the Scene Viewer. This defect is identified as BUG-000161332 and is present in the initial A version of the patch released on June 28, 2023 and a subsequent B version released on July 6, 2023. The most current C version of the patch released on December 12, 2023, does not cause this issue. Users who experienced the issue with the A and B version of this patch cannot resolve the problem by uninstalling the patch, nor by applying the most current C version of the patch. BUG-000161332 caused files provided by Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Web Styles to be removed. To resolve the issue, a repair or reinstall of the Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Web Styles is needed as outlined in the steps below.

Cause

The Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Enterprise Sites Security Patch erroneously removes a file and a directory installed by Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Web Styles that enables advanced 3D symbols in the Scene Viewer.

Workaround

For users who were impacted by BUG-000161332, neither uninstalling the patch nor applying the most current C version of the patch will offer a resolution. Instead, follow these steps to ensure the affected file and directory are re-created:

  1. On the machine where Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 and Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Web Styles are installed:
    • On Windows, run a repair of the Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Web Styles setup.
    • On Linux, reinstall the Portal for ArcGIS 11.1 Web Styles setup.
  2. Restart the Portal for ArcGIS service.
