Integrate Survey123 for Enterprise forms with ArcGIS Online hosted feature layers

Summary

In a distributed collaboration between ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online, only survey feature layers and web maps can be shared. Survey forms hosted in ArcGIS Online are not supported and are inaccessible to ArcGIS Enterprise users for data submission.

This article describes the workflow to allow Enterprise users to submit data to a feature layer hosted in ArcGIS Online without using a distributed collaboration. This approach enables submissions from both Online and Enterprise environments but requires separate surveys and manual updates to the survey configurations and schema.

Procedure

1. Obtain the survey’s hosted feature layer URL in ArcGIS Online.
   1. In ArcGIS Online, open the survey’s hosted feature layer item page.
   2. On the Overview tab, under URL, click Copy to copy the feature layer URL.
2. Add the survey’s hosted feature layer to the Enterprise portal.
   1. In the Enterprise portal, add the feature layer URL as a new item. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Add a service or document from a URL for instructions.
   2. In the New item dialog box, toggle Store credentials with service item. Do not prompt for authentication on. Click Next.
   3. Type the ArcGIS Online credentials in the Enter username and Enter password fields. Click Next.
   4. Specify a title in the Title field and click Save.
3. Create a new survey in ArcGIS Survey123 Connect using the feature layer.
   1. Log in to Survey123 Connect using the Enterprise portal account. Refer to ArcGIS Survey123: Setup for instructions.
   2. Click New survey.
   3. In the New Survey dialog box, under Create a new survey from, click Feature services under Organization.
   4. Browse to and select the feature layer added to the portal in Step 2. Click Create survey.
   5. Click Publish to publish the survey form.

Once the survey is published, responses submitted to the Enterprise survey are stored in the credentials-protected layer within the Enterprise portal, while responses submitted to the Online survey are stored in the survey’s hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online. This allows data to be shared and accessed between the Online and Enterprise surveys.
