Summary
Performing analysis on transportation networks is important to find the best and most effective route or location. In ArcGIS Pro, routes with directions from one location to multiple locations or vice versa can be created using the closest facility solver with the ArcGIS Network Analyst extension. For more information regarding Network Analyst solvers, refer to ArcGIS Pro: Network Analyst solvers.
In this example, the routes from a distribution center to multiple stores within an area must be created. The image below shows the DistributionCenter layer with one feature and the Stores layer with multiple features.
Procedure
- Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
- On the Analysis tab, in the Workflows group, click Network Analysis > Closest Facility to create the closest facility layer.
- Add the facilities.
- On the Contents pane, ensure the closest facility layer is selected.
- On the top ribbon, click the Closest Facility Layer tab and click Import Facilities in the Input Data group.
- In the Add Locations window, for Input Network Analysis Layer, ensure Closest Facility is specified.
- For Sub Layer, ensure Facilities is specified.
- For Input Locations, select the feature layer containing the multiple destinations or ending points from the drop-down list. In this example, the Stores feature layer is selected.
- Click OK.

- Add the incident.
- On the Closest Facility Layer tab, click Import Incidents in the Input Data group.
- In the Add Locations window, for Input Network Analysis Layer, ensure Closest Facility is specified.
- For Sub Layer, ensure Incidents is specified.
- For Input Locations, select the feature layer containing the origin or starting point from the drop-down list. In this example, the DistributionCenter feature layer is selected.

- On the top ribbon, in the Travel Settings group, for Direction, select Toward facilities from the drop-down list to create route directions from the incident (one location) to the facilities (multiple locations). In this example, routes are created from the distribution center to each store.
Note:
Alternatively, select Away from facilities for Direction to create route directions from the facilities to the incident.
- For Facilities, specify the number of facilities in the area to create the same number of routes. In this example, 16 is specified as there are 16 stores in the area.
- In the Directions group, check the Output on Solve check box to generate the directions.
- In the Analysis group, click Run to run the closest facility analysis.
- To display the directions, click Show Directions in the Directions group.
