Frequently asked question

Can numeric data from a CSV file be used as a variable to create a color-coded map in ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App?

Last Published: August 15, 2024

Answer

No, it is not possible to use numeric data from a CSV file as a variable to create a color-coded map in ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App. This is a known limitation, as a color-coded map can only be created using a variable from the Esri Demographics data. Refer to ArcGIS Business Analyst: Data in Business Analyst for more information. However, it is possible to export the site layer to ArcGIS Online and configure it in Map Viewer using smart mapping. This method displays the numeric data from the feature layer as a color-coded map.

Note:
Excel and CSV files with addresses, coordinates, or standard geographic boundaries can be used as a site layer in the ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App project. Refer to ArcGIS Business Analyst: Add your data for more information.
  1. In ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App, export the site layer as a web map to ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Business Analyst: Share web maps and layers for instructions.
  2. Log in to ArcGIS Online, navigate to Content > My content, select the web map to view the item details page, and click Open in Map Viewer.
  3. In Map Viewer, configure the feature layer to display the numeric data as a color-coded map using the Counts and Amounts (color) style.
Note:
To ensure the data are accessible, manageable, and ready for various applications and analyses, export the feature layer to a CSV file, file geodatabase, KML file, or shapefile using the Extract Data tool in Map Viewer.
