Error Message

Attempts to update the ArcGIS Data Store SSL certificate via the updatesslcertificate utility fail, and return the following error message:

Error encountered: Machine 'https://<MachineName>:2443/arcgis/datastoreadmin' returned an error. 'Unable to import certificate'

Cause

• The certificate file used is not in the PKCS12 format.
• The certificate file’s password contains non-alphanumeric characters.

Solution or Workaround

Ensure the certificate file used is in the PKCS12 format with the .pfx or .p12 file extension and use alphanumeric characters when setting the certificate file’s password.
