Error Message

When attempting to validate a hosting server in ArcGIS Server, the following error is returned:

Cause

• ArcGIS Server does not have ArcGIS Web Adaptor configured.
• The ArcGIS Enterprise portal contains the incorrect ArcGIS Web Adaptor URL.
• Windows Authentication is enabled and Anonymous Authentication is disabled as the authentication method for the web adaptor of the federated ArcGIS Server.

Solution or Workaround

Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor

Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor with ArcGIS Server to route web requests through Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and allow the portal to communicate securely with the hosting server. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor with a server site for instructions.

Update the ArcGIS Web Adaptor URL in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal

Update the ArcGIS Web Adaptor URL in the portal so it references the correct endpoint of the hosting server. This step is necessary after reconfiguring or reinstalling the ArcGIS Web Adaptor. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor with Portal for ArcGIS for instructions.

Modify the authentication method settings for the web adaptor

Enable Anonymous Authentication and disable Windows Authentication for the authentication method settings for the web adaptor using Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Refer to Steps 1 through 5 in Error: ArcGIS Server services URL '<https://server.domain.com/webadaptor>' cannot be validated against '<https://server.domain.com/webadaptor/rest/info>' for instructions and more information.
