ArcGIS Pro: Error 003767 The input feature class is not 3D Object. Upgrade to 3D Object with the Add 3D Formats To Multipatch tool

Error Message

In ArcGIS Pro, using a simple feature layer as input for the Export 3D Objects tool returns the following error message:

Error 003767 The input feature class is not 3D Object. Upgrade to 3D Object with the "Add 3D Formats To Multipatch (Data Management)" tool.

Cause

This is expected behavior. The Export 3D Objects tool does not support simple feature layer types, such as polygon, point, line, or multipatch, as input. Only 3D object feature layers are supported as input.

Solution or Workaround

1. Open the project in ArcGIS Pro.
2. Convert the map to a local scene. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Convert a map to a scene for instructions.

Note:
Skip Step 3 if the feature layer is a multipatch.

Note:
The Layer 3D To Feature Class tool requires the input feature layer to have 3D display properties defined. If necessary, set the feature layer extrusion type to define its 3D display properties in the local scene view. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Extrude features for more information.

3. Export the simple feature layer as a multipatch feature layer using the Layer 3D To Feature Class tool.
   1. On the Analysis tab in the Geoprocessing group, click Tools.
   2. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for and select Layer 3D To Feature Class (3D Analyst Tools).
   3. In the Layer 3D To Feature Class pane, for Input Feature Layer, select the feature layer from the drop-down menu. In this example, a polygon feature layer is used.
   4. For Output Feature Class, specify a name and location for the output feature layer.
   5. Click Run.

Note:
The Add 3D Formats To Multipatch tool requires an ArcGIS Pro Standard or Advanced license.

4. Convert the multipatch feature layer to a 3D object feature layer using the Add 3D Formats To Multipatch tool.
