ArcGIS Pro: 002809 Field <name> in <location> is of an unsupported type for the output workspace

Last Published: May 6, 2024

Error Message

In ArcGIS Pro 3.2, exporting feature classes or tables to shapefiles or geodatabases located outside of the current project geodatabase returns the following error message:

Error:
ERROR 002809: Field <field name> in <location> is of an unsupported type for the output workspace.
The error message in ArcGIS Pro.

Cause

The input feature classes or tables contain 64-bit object IDs or fields with the big integer, timestamp offset, date only, or time only data type. These data types have been introduced in ArcGIS Pro 3.2 and are only supported in ArcGIS Pro 3.2.0 and later. Therefore, exporting the feature classes or tables to geodatabases created in ArcGIS Pro 3.1 and earlier or legacy formats such as shapefiles is not supported.

Solution or Workaround

  • Downgrade 64-bit object IDs to 32-bit object IDs. Refer to How To: Downgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit object ID in ArcGISPro for instructions.
  • Upgrade the output geodatabase using the Upgrade Geodatabase tool.
  • Change the field's data type when exporting features or tables using the Export Features or Export Table tool.
    • In the Export Features or Export Table geoprocessing pane, expand Fields and click Edit. In the Field Properties window, under Properties, select a supported data type from the drop-down list. In this example, Date is selected to replace Date Only.
A new data type is selected for the field in the Field Properties window.
  • Avoid assigning new field types to existing fields when adding query layers and text files.
    • On the Options dialog box, click the Map and Scene tab and check the Use field types that are compatible with ArcGIS Pro 3.1 and earlier releases when adding query layers and text files check box. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Add layers and tables for more information.
The 'Use field types that are compatible with ArcGIS Pro 3.1 and earlier releases when adding query layers and text files' check box.
