An ArcGIS Notebook Server is not currently configured

Error Message

When attempting to access notebooks in ArcGIS Online, the following error message is returned:

An ArcGIS Notebook Server is not currently configured.

Cause

• The organizational account is part of an organization that does not have a published hosted layer. When an organizational account does not have a published hosted layer, it does not have a hive service assigned to it.
• The account used is an ArcGIS Online trial account. A trial account does not allow access to notebooks in ArcGIS Online. Refer to the 'What's included' table in ArcGIS Online: ArcGIS Online Trial for the list of apps included in an ArcGIS Online trial account.

Solution or Workaround

Publish a hosted layer

Publish a hosted layer to assign a hive service to the organization. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Publish hosted feature layers for more information and instructions to publish a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online.

Subscribe to a full organizational account

To access notebooks in ArcGIS Online, subscribe to a full organizational account. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Manage trial subscription for more information.
