9999: An attempt was made to process a stale Hibernate object

Error Message

In some instances, when attempting to authorize an ArcGIS Desktop license, the authorization fails and returns the following error message:

9999: An attempt was made to process a stale Hibernate object. [Incident Number]

Cause

  • The authorization process of the ArcGIS Desktop software is interrupted, preventing the process from completing.
  • ArcGIS Administrator is unable to access and overwrite older license files in the FlexNET folder.

Solution or Workaround

Follow the steps below to resolve the error.

  1. On the machine, launch the ArcGIS Administrator as an administrator, and deauthorize the old licenses. Refer to How To: Perform online deauthorization of licenses for ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Engine for steps to do this.
  2. Reauthorize the software with the new licenses. Refer to ArcMap: Authorizing ArcGIS single use products and features for steps to do this.
