Deauthorize ArcGIS Server licenses

Summary

It may be necessary to deauthorize ArcGIS Server licenses for any of the following reasons:

  • To deauthorize any version of ArcGIS Server licenses.
  • If it is necessary to deauthorize any extensions of ArcGIS Server.
  • If there is an incorrect version of the license in use or an incorrect core license to authorize ArcGIS Server.

Procedure

Follow the steps below to de-authorize ArcGIS Server licenses:

  1. Access the machine where ArcGIS Server is installed.
  2. Stop the ArcGIS Server service account from Services.msc.
  3. Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\ESRI\License10.x\sysgen.
  4. Rename the keycodes file to keycodes_old.
  5. Restart the ArcGIS Server service account from Services.msc.
  6. Navigate to the Start menu, and open the ArcGIS folder. Launch the Software Authorization for ArcGIS Server utility.
  7. Authorize the correct ArcGIS GIS Server role (and extensions, if required) successfully.
  8. Browse to ArcGIS Server Manager and navigate to Sites > Software Authorization tab. 
  9. Confirm the licenses are authorized successfully.
Note:
By restarting the ArcGIS Server service account, the site may be down for a few minutes.
