What is a deprecation notice?

Last Published: October 30, 2025

Over time software evolves to accommodate new features and the overall IT landscape continues to change.  Sometimes these changes mean that features or functionality will be removed in a future product release.

Esri uses the term “deprecated” to indicate a feature or functionality that will be removed in a future release.  While this feature or functionality remains fully supported until it is officially removed, it will not receive updates or other enhancements.  The deprecation timeframe can span several months or years depending on the specifics of the planned change.  The deprecation notice is intended to allow customers to plan for future removal of the feature or functionality.
