Symbols of line and polygon layers are visible in the map service even though the symbology is disabled for the layers in the MXD file before publishing.

This issue was logged against a version of the software which is no longer supported, and has not had activity in some time. Instead of disabling the symbols, follow the steps below:
- In Table Of Contents, click the layer's symbol and use 'No Color' for the symbology color.
- Save the MXD file and publish it as a map service.
