After careful inspection by lead developers of both display/output and cartographic reps, we have determined that this is a limitation of the GDI-based output engine in ArcMap. The recommended workaround of raising the EMF split limit (up to 500mb or more) _may_ allow proper output, at the cost of increased chance of "cannot map metafile" errors.対処法
