Clicking Save on the layer settings immediately after the Optimize Layer Drawing job is initiated by clicking Update creates a subsequent or second updateDefinition call, which can interfere with the first layer optimization job that is in progress.

Do not click Save on the layer settings while the optimization process is running. If the layer(s) selected are not optimized, repeat the process. The image below shows what is displayed when the layer is optimized.
