When using the Generate Near Table tool with the Geodesic method, the second closest location appears diagonal to the point feature.

In the Geodesic method, distance is calculated along a curve from the center of the sphere. In a two-dimensional view, this appears as a straight line, but it is still the nearest point based on the data. The distance calculated using both methods remains the same.
