The ImageryLayer class in ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.0 does not allow changing the pixelType property.

pixelType is similar to a read-only property on the layer and only reflects the value advertised by the serviceInfo. If wanting to change the pixelType, it needs to be defined in the function chain set as part of the renderingRule. For any function you can define an outputPixelType.
