The length reported in the elevation profile tool shows the horizontal (2D) distance of the path and it matches the X-axis of the graph. In geographic coordinate systems (GCS) and in Web Mercator, this distance is computed geodetically. In projected coordinate systems (PCS), apart from Web Mercator, the distance is computed in a Euclidean manner (in the respective PCS).
