The ArcSDE Connection File (.sde) changes to an Application Server connection when publishing a script tool that takes a .sde connection file as input to a workspace parameter.

The connection type is not actually changed. Starting at 10.4.1 to support externalized connections, the information was moved when publishing from the .SDE file to an internal file for Server.
