Bogue

New point features added in ArcMap appear as red boxes in a multipoint feature class while in the editing mode.

The behavior is as designed because the user is in an active sketch as they continue to add points. Symbolizing the individual points as red squares helps the user know they are still creating the same feature. In arcgis pro the symbol of the feature is drawing over top of the red square so that may be clearer to the user.
