Memory consumption and performance using the memory workspace compared to in_memory is much more comparable in the 2.8 and 2.9 releases. Memory consumption for creating 10 million points is about 1gb for in_memory and 2gb for memory. The performance of the operation is roughly the same (12 seconds).
