In some cases, synchronizing a replica with Default set to 'Protected' crashes ArcGIS for Desktop.

Solution de contournement

In this case, the synchronization was successful by using the replica owner connections on each side. (GIS user connection from Sync2 and SDE user connection from Sync1).
