In ArcGIS Pro, accessing an Excel file in the Catalog pane returns the error message, "Error: Exception of type 'ArcGIS.Desktop.Core.Geoprocessing.GPItemException' was thrown" if the Excel file is already used in a layer joined in the same project and if the map containing the layer is open.

Solution de contournement

  1. Add the Excel file's table as table view to the map by right-clicking the table and selecting 'Add To Current Map'.
  2. Use the table view instead of the Excel file for the join.
