Bogue
If Avast Antivirus is installed, it recognizes Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files from the 'C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.2\bin' as viruses and affects the overall usability of ArcMap, which either crashes or has several functions disabled.

Either disable Avast Antivirus, or whitelist the bin folder by following the steps below:1) Open the Avast User Interface (right-click the Avast tray icon and select 'Open Avast!
