Depending on the required functionality, use one of the workarounds below.

Workaround 1: Add the map service as an item to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal with or without custom parameters, and set a filter on the feature layer via the item details page's Visualization tab. This saves a query on the layer's geometry and table data. It is the preferred option for using the layer in various web maps without reconfiguring it each time.

1. Access the layer's item details page.
2. On the Visualization tab, in the left toolbar, select the layer.
3. On the right toolbar, click Filter.
4. Click + Add New.
5. Save the layer either as a new layer or as the same layer.

Workaround 2: Add the layer to Map Viewer with or without custom parameters and set a filter on the layer. This filter both the geometry and the table, but these changes are only saved within the web map. Using the layer in another map requires repeating this step.
