Creating or altering operations from the ArcCatalog pane, such as copying and pasting of feature classes, causes implicit commits while an edit session is open in ArcMap.

The committing of uncommitted edits in a user transaction when creating geodatabase maintained schema (e.g., through copy and paste) is as designed and will not be blocked. The default editing experience in map for non-versioned data has been set in a way to help users avoid these workflow issues. Unchecking 'Automatically save changes after each edit' places the responsibility on the users workflow to manage the transnational scope.
