Creating a new column for the layers legend in the ArcMap layout view does not give the desired result.

Creating new columns and setting the number of columns for a selected legend item is working as designed. The Column count for items(s) value in the Items tab pertains to individual legend items. It specifies the maximum number of columns that this particular legend item can use in order to fit the legend. It does not apply to the legend as a whole. It does not specify column order. To change the order columns in the legend go to the General tab and reorder the legend items.Solution de contournement
