Attempting to add a non-hosted ArcGIS Server feature service containing empty feature classes from an ArcGIS Server user connection to ArcMap returns the error message, "Could not add specified data object to the map."

Option 1

1. Add a feature to the empty feature class.
2. Overwrite the service.

 Option 2

1. Publish the service with the feature classes that contains features only.
2. Add the empty feature classes to the map and overwrite the service.

Both workarounds are not applicable for users with dynamic and user dependent database views.
