Esri maps for IBM Cognos version 6.1.1 Utilities Patch

This patch addresses problems with the server-side utilities for upgrading map specifications, created using older versions of Esri maps for IBM Cognos, and for updating URL paths to Esri Map Services in IBM Cognos reports imported from one environment to another.

Esri® announces the Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.1.1 Utilities Patch. This patch addresses problems with the server-side utilities for upgrading map specifications, created using older versions of Esri maps for IBM Cognos, and for updating URL paths to Esri Map Services in IBM Cognos reports imported from one environment to another. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

Issues Addressed with this patch


  • BUG-000100178 – Server-side utility to upgrade map specification in IBM Cognos reports created using earlier versions of EM4C does not work.

  • BUG-000100179 – Server-side utility to quickly update the URL paths relating to Esri Map Services in IBM Cognos Reports imported from other IBM Cognos environments does not work.

Download the appropriate file to a location other than your Esri Maps for IBM Cognos location.

Installing this patch on Windows

Installation Steps:

Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.1.1 must be installed before installing this patch.

Before you start, make sure you have write access to the Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.1.1 installation location.

The following must be completed on all Esri Maps for IBM Cognos Server and Gateway machines in your configuration.

  1. Copy PATCH-EM4C-Gateway.zip, PATCH-EM4C-Server.zip and version.txt to a temporary location on your server where you have write access.

  2. Stop the EM4C Server service(s)

    Note: On the Windows platform, the default name of the Windows service is EM4C. If you are running Esri Maps for IBM Cognos using a non-default EM4C Server HTTP Port, the name of the service is EM4C. For example, if the EM4C Server HTTP Port is 1234, the service is named EM4C1234.

  3. Copy and extract PATCH-EM4C-Gateway.zip and version.zip to the root directory of each EM4C Gateway, overwriting files when prompted.

  4. Copy and extract PATCH-EM4C-Server.zip and version.zip to the root directory of each EM4C Server, overwriting files when prompted.

  5. Restart the EM4C Server service.

  6. Clear your browser's cache.

Installing this patch on AIX, Linux and System Z

Installation Steps:

Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.1.1 must be installed before installing this patch.

Before you start, make sure you have write access to the Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.1.1 installation location.

The following must be completed on all Esri Maps for IBM Cognos Server and Gateway machines in your configuration.

  1. Copy PATCH-EM4C-Gateway.zip, PATCH-EM4C-Server.zip and version.zip to a temporary location anywhere you have write access.

  2. Stop the EM4C Server service(s). The following should be run as the user who owns the Esri Maps for IBM Cognos installation location. Navigate to the "/bin" directory and run the following:

    ./stop-em4c.sh

  3. Extract the PATCH-EM4C-Gateway.zip into the "<EM4C install location>" on each of the EM4C Gateway server(s) (overwrite existing files as necessary).

  4. Extract the PATCH-EM4C-Server.zip into the "<EM4C install location>" on each of the EM4C Server server(s) (overwrite existing files as necessary).

  5. Extract the version.zip file to "<EM4C install location>" on each of the EM4C Gateway and EM4C Server server(s) (overwrite existing files as necessary).

  6. Start EM4C Server services. The following should be run as the user who owns the Esri Maps for IBM Cognos installation location. Navigate to the "<EM4C install location>/bin" directory and run the following:

    ./start-em4c.sh

  7. Refresh browser cache
