ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2

New Release! ESRI announces the ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2 release for HP-64, IBM-64, Linux, Solaris-64 and Windows.

The Server component of this release of ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2 includes all the fixes addressed in previously released 9.1 Patches and Service Packs. It also includes all the fixes addressed in ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2. Therefore, you do not need to install ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2 top of the Server component of this release. However ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2 must be installed on your client applications before you install the SDK component of this release. Please see the SDK documentation below for specific instructions for SDK users.

A CD of this release is also available for users who experience difficulties downloading the release from the web site. Please contact ESRI's Customer Service or your international Distributor to order the CD.

It is strongly recommended that you back up your database including all previous ArcSDE system tables and user layer data before upgrading your ArcSDE installation. Install this release using your SDE user account.

REQUIRED INSTALL STEP: If you connect to ArcSDE 9.1 via an Application Server and Direct Connect connections using ArcGIS 9.1, ArcIMS 9.1, or ArcView GIS 3.3 with DBA 2.1g make sure you also see ESRI Products connecting to ArcSDE (Application and Direct Connect connections).

INSTALLATION NOTE: The ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2 release includes the ArcSDE Installation Guide from ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle9i. There are a number of changes you will have to consider when reading the ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle9i Installation Guide while installing and setting up the ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2 Release.

  • 1. All references to Oracle9i can be changed to Oracle10gR2.

    2. All references to the sdesetupora9i command should be substituted with sdesetupora10g.

    3. All references to the sdeservice –o create –d oracle9i,SID command should be substituted with sdeservice –o create –d oracle10g,SID

    4. UNIX installations/System Requirements


    • The ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2 release is available on the following UNIX and Linux platforms:
      HP 64bit
      Solaris 64bit
      AIX 64bit
      Red Hat Linux

Oracle 10gR1 - INSTALLATION NOTE: Users with Oracle 10gR1 databases should use this release. See system requirements DBMS Notes for ArcSDE 9.1 Oracle10gR1 for important setup information.

Server Install for UNIX & Linux


  1. 1. This is a new, full release of the ArcSDE 9.1 product. You cannot install this release on top of your existing $SDEHOME. You must both back up and remove your current ArcSDE installation or install this release to a new location
  2. .

  3. Download the appropriate tar file:

  4. Uncompress and extract the specified tar file for your platform. Ensure that the last letter of the file name is a capital Z. Otherwise, the uncompress command will not work:


  5. %uncompress sde91-ora10gR2-<Platform>.tar.Z
    % tar -xvf sde91-ora10gR2-<Platform>.tar

  6. Follow the installation instructions in install_oracle9i.htm (please read Install_Guide_README.htm first at the top level of the CD for this release).Please run sdesetupora10g –o upgrade after installing this release of ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2.

Server Install for Windows


  1. This is a new, full release of the ArcSDE 9.1 product. You cannot install this release on top of your existing %SDEHOME%. If you do not uninstall before running setup the setup application for this product will prompt you to remove the previous install of ArcSDE.


  2. Download the following file:

    ArcSDEOracle10g.exe 36 MB

  4. Double-click the setup file to start the install process.


  5. When Setup starts, follow the instructions on your screen.


  6. Follow the installation instructions in install_oracle9i.htm (please read Install_Guide_README.htm first at the top level of the CD for this release or installed under C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\ArcSDE.) to install or upgrade to this release. Please run sdesetupora10g –o upgrade after installing this release of ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2.

ArcSDE SDK Install for UNIX & Linux (Direct connect users only)


ArcSDE 9.1 General Update Patch 2 or ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2 must be installed on your client applications before you install this release.

  1. Download the appropriate file to your ArcSDE installation location/lib directory (i.e. $SDEHOME/lib):


  2. Uncompress and extract the specified tar file for your platform. Ensure that the last letter of the file name is a capital Z. Otherwise, the uncompress command will not work:

    %uncompress sde91-ora10gR2-esri-<Platform>.tar.Z
    %tar xvf sde91-ora10gR2-esri-<Platform>.tar



ArcSDE SDK Install for Windows (Direct connect users only)


ArcSDE 9.1 General Update Patch 2 or ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2 must be installed on your client applications before you install this release.
  1. Download the file to a location other than the ArcSDE SDK installation folder:

  2. ArcSDE SDK sde91-ora10gR2-esri-win.zip 2 MB

  3. Use WinZip to extract the new files from sde91-ora10gR2-esri-win.zip to the bin folder under your ArcSDE installation location.

NOTE: After uninstalling ArcSDE, these newly added files will remain. You must manually delete them after uninstalling ArcSDE.

ESRI Products connecting to ArcSDE (Direct connect users only)


ArcSDE 9.1 General Update Patch 2 or ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2 must be installed on your client applications before you install this release.

  • Linux

    • If you connect to ArcSDE 9.1 using ArcInfo Workstation 9.1 or ArcIMS 9.1 on any supported Unix/Linux platform please follow the steps below to install this release to your ArcGIS 9.1 software installation directory. This also applies if connecting to ArcSDE 9.1 using ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Engine, and ArcGIS Reader for Sun Solaris and Linux:

      • Before you start, make sure you have write access to the installation directory then download the appropriate compressed tar file to that location:


      • ArcIMS only, stop the ArcIMS Tasker, ArcIMS Monitor, ArcIMS Application Server (in that order).

      • Uncompress and extract the specified tar file for your platform. Ensure that the last letter of the file name is a capital Z. Otherwise, the uncompress command will not work. At the UNIX prompt type:

        %cd <installation_directory> (i.e. cd $ARCHOME, $AGSHOME or $AIMSHOME)

        • <Workstation Installation Directory>/lib
        • <ArcIMS Installation Directory>/lib
        • <ArcGIS Server Installation Directory>/bin
        • <ArcGIS Engine Installation Directory>/bin
        • <ArcGIS Reader Installation Directory>/bin

        %uncompress sde91-ora10gR2-esri-lx.tar.Z
        %tar xvf sde91-ora10gR2-esri-lx.tar


      • ArcIMS only, restart ArcIMS Application Server, ArcIMS Monitor and ArcIMS Tasker (in that order).


    Windows

    • If you connect to ArcSDE 9.1 using ArcGIS 9.1, ArcIMS 9.1, ArcInfo Workstation 9.1, or ArcView GIS 3.3 with DBA 2.1g, please follow the steps below to install this release to your ArcGIS 9.1, ArcIMS 9.1, ArcInfo Workstation 9.1, or ArcView GIS 3.3 with DBA 2.1g installation folder:

    • Before you start, make sure you have write access to the installation folder, then download the zip file to that location:


    • ArcIMS only, stop the ArcIMS Tasker, ArcIMS Monitor, ArcIMS Application Server (in that order).

    • Use WinZip to extract the new files from sde91-ora10gR2-esri-win.zip to the appropriate installation folder, see list below:

      • ArcGIS Desktop, Server, Engine, Reader, or ArcView 9 - <installation-folder>\arcgis\bin
      • ArcGIS Workstation - <installation-folder>\arcexe9x\bin
      • ArcView GIS - <installation-folder>\av_gis30\arcview\(bin32 & DCONNECT\LIB)
      • Depending on the ArcIMS Setup features installed, the SDE client file could be located in one or more of the following locations:

        • C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\bin
        • C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcIMS\IndexBuilder
        • C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcIMS\Metadata\Commands
        • C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcIMS\Server\bin
    • ArcIMS only, restart ArcIMS Application Server, ArcIMS Monitor and ArcIMS Tasker (in that order).

NOTE: After uninstalling any of the above ESRI products, these newly added files will remain. You must manually delete them after uninstalling the product.
