ArcGIS 10 SP5 – 10.2.2 for (Desktop, Engine, Server) PDF Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere Patch

This patch addresses issues with geo-enabled PDF exports from Esri products when used in Adobe® products, when the export was created from maps using the Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere coordinate system.

Esri® announces the ArcGIS 10 SP5 – 10.2.2 for (Desktop, Engine, Server) PDF Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere Patch. Adobe Reader® and Adobe Acrobat® may have problems reading map coordinate information in Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere. This patch addresses issues with geo-enabled PDF exports from Esri products using the Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere coordinate system referenced by WKID "EPSG:3857 (Esri:102100)". The issue is that the geo-enabled functionality appears to be non-functional in the exported PDF when it is opened in Adobe products. This patch changes the definition of the Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere coordinate system written into the geo-enabled PDF, changing WKID "EPSG:3857 (Esri:102100)" to "Esri:102113". The two definitions are mathematically equivalent and will give the same results, and the new definition will allow geo-enabled functionality to operate properly. Esri recommends this patch to all users who use geo-enabled PDF exports with Adobe products. This patch deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.


Issues Addressed with this patch


  • NIM062136 - The exported PDF does not show the latitude and longitude information in Adobe Acrobat Reader version 9.3 or 9.4 if the exported map is in the "WGS_1984_Web_Mercator_Auxiliary_Sphere" projection.

Installing this patch on Windows

Installation Steps:

ArcGIS for Desktop, Engine, or Server must be installed before installing this patch.

  1. Download the appropriate file for your environment to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.

  3. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location.

  5. Double-click the appropriate setup <msp/exe> to start the setup process.

    NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the setup installation, you can start the setup installation manually by using the following command:

    msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\ArcGIS-<Version>-<Product>-PWMAS-Patch.msp

Installing this patch on Linux

Complete the following install steps as the ArcGIS Install owner. The Install owner is the owner of the arcgis folder.

ArcGIS for Server must be installed before installing this patch.

  2. Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location, and that no one is using ArcGIS.

  4. Extract the specified tar file by typing:

    % tar -xvf ArcGIS-<Version>-<Product>-PWMAS-Patch-lx.tar

  6. Start the installation by typing:

    % ./applypatch

    This will start the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure, type 'q' at any time.
