Error
When running the Append (Data Management) tool and selecting the 'Use the field map to reconcile field differences' parameter, the tool does not function as expected if the fields do not match, thus defeating the purpose of field mapping.

If the names of the fields match, the tool runs and produces the expected output. Field matching is not necessary.
