When a raster is outside the extent of its coordinate system (WGS1984), the raster fails the first time it is added to a mosaic dataset in ArcCatalog with a Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere coordinate system.

Solución alternativa

Create the mosaic dataset with the same coordinate system as the raster, or project the raster. Add the raster twice, and then remove the footprint from the mosaic dataset.
