Error
The Export Map REST function returns the error message, "Error: bytes, Code: 500" for an ArcGIS Server 10.3.1 cached map service with an ArcGIS Online tiling scheme, if a custom projection is used in the data frame property in ArcMap 10.3.1.

If the data frame has a custom projection, set the data frame coordinate system to 'Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere, (Well-Known ID (WKID) 102100, 3857),' before publishing the map service in ArcMap.
