Error

Registering a PostgreSQL read only (slave) database with ArcGIS GIS Server 10.5 fails with an error. Registering a PostgreSQL read only database with ArcGIS GIS Server was previously possible at 10.2.X.

This issue is by design. Since 10.0, if there are new geodatabase item types added dynamically that do not exist (for example, syncReplicas) using the first connection to the geodatabase. This is resolved by making sure the master database is up-to-date (connect to the geodatabase first).
