If images are coming from different sources in ArcGIS Online, they do not open in the Story Map during editing mode.

This is not a recommended or supported workflow. If images are uploaded into a Story Map Tour, all the images in the tour are expected to be uploaded the same way. The tour do not work if the author edits the data layer that the Map Tour automatically creates to try and add additional images from other sources.Solución alternativa
